On Tuesday night, when news broke that Alex Smith had been traded to Washington – thus signaling the end of the Kirk Cousins era in Washington – former Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III tweeted, “Some how…Some way…they will blame this on me. No doubt.”

Some wondered what the point of that tweet was.

“I think the point of the tweet was it’s a joke,” Griffin said on Tiki and Tierney. “It’s a joke. I think the people who understood it, laughed it off, and the people who didn’t got sensitive about it.”

Griffin, the second overall pick in 2012, had a contentious relationship with former head coach Mike Shanahan and the Redskins organization. He was asked to asses the trade for Smith – and the impending decision to part ways with Cousins.

“I can’t speak for that,” Griffin said. “They gave up three first-round picks for me and gave me two years as a full-time starter, so I can’t speak for that.”

Talk about a statement dripping with venom.

“Here’s what I’ll say after that venom statement,” Griffin said. “I’m always going to be connected to Washington. I’m always going to love the Redskins. I love the organization, no matter what anyone says about it. The city of D.C. has to know that I love D.C. I’m always going to root for you, I’m always going to wish the best for you, and that’s what it will be.”
