Baker Mayfield is going to have to answer a lot of questions in the coming months, and he answered many of them at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama. The questions weren’t about his Big 12 championship, Heisman Trophy, or performance in the Rose Bowl.

They were about his behavior.

“A lot of the off-the-field stuff,” Mayfield said on Tiki and Tierney. “The question right now is how I’m going to handle publicity, being in the spotlight, if I’m going to be able to be the face of a franchise. Addressing the arrest situation that I had, some of the stuff that happened – the Ohio State flag plant, the Kansas crotch-grab. So a lot of that stuff being addressed right now. For me, that’s sitting in front of them and being honest, saying that there’s mistakes that I’ve made, there’s things I can and can’t do, and I know where to draw the line. I’ve learned from it. I’m going to move forward.

“But at the same time, I can’t stop being myself,” Mayfield continued. “I can’t stop having passion for the game – because the second I do that, I will not have success on the field.”

Tiki Barber asked about Mayfield’s February 2017 arrest. Mayfield was charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest and fleeing. A police officer tackled Mayfield almost immediately.

What made him think he could run from a cop?

“I just got scared in the moment,” Mayfield said.

Looking ahead, Mayfield would like to play for a high-profile NFL franchise.

“I’d love the chance to play anywhere,” he said, “but I think somewhere where the spotlight’s on, it’s a challenge, there’s a lot of criticism that comes with it – I think that’s the kind of situation I thrive in. So some of the bigger markets, and then obviously a situation like Cleveland would be something hand-in-hand with that, too.”

The Browns, who went 0-16 this season, own the first and fourth overall picks.
