As of now, the No. 1 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft will likely be Sam Darnold or Josh Rosen. While either Pac-12 quarterback would be a worthy selection, going No. 1 would fulfill a lifelong dream for Darnold.
“You definitely think about it as a player,” the USC product said on Tiki and Tierney. “Going No. 1 overall would be pretty sweet. It’s always been a dream of mine to go No. 1 overall, but at the same time, it’s been a dream of mine to play in the NFL. I never lose sight of that. I’m just grateful to be in the position that I am. If I think about other people – like Josh Rosen or Josh Allen, Baker, any of those guys – I think I’ll start to lose sight of what I’m really searching for and that’s trying to get better every single day. So I’m just trying to work on myself. Wherever I go, I’m going to be stoked to be there.”
Darnold, 20, believes he’ll excel as a leader at the next level.
“I think that’s going to come pretty naturally to me,” he said. “But something I got to work on is continuing to learn how to prepare. It’s different from college. In college, you got classes to worry on and you only have a certain amount of time to watch film and you don’t want to be up all night watching film because you got to get your rest before a game.”
While Rosen has more or less said he doesn’t want to play for the Browns, who have the No. 1 pick, Darnold would have no problem setting up shop in Cleveland. He’s been asked that question countless times and has always responded the same way.
“My honest answer is I don’t care,” he said. “It’s a dream of mine to play in the NFL. At the same time, I am aware of some of the situations that are out there in terms of organizations and ownership and all that kind of stuff. But I’m excited to play for whoever wants to invest in me as a quarterback. I think that’s how I’m going to go about it.”
Darnold also dropped by to promote Red Robin’s new Gourmet Burger Bar, a hassle-free way to serve high-quality burgers customizable to everyone’s tastes.
