CBS Sports NFL insider Jason La Canfora joined Tiki And Tierney on CBS Sports Radio for his weekly spot Friday. The first topic up for debate was what everyone has been talking about this week. Will Tony Romo play for the Cowboys in a game that essentially doesn’t mean anything for the team before their playoff bye?
“Early in the week everything I was hearing is that they are going to try to put Romo in bubble wrap,” La Canfora said. “Tony wants to play a little bit. Tony hasn’t started a regular season game since before last Thanksgiving. The idea that he would just come in cold in a playoff game with everything on the line in a year where they’re favorites to get to the Super Bowl and just save the season if Dak god forbid broke his leg is not really how it works. If he’s going to play at all, he would need to play at least half that game to get anything out of it.”
In other news, Rex Ryan got the pink slip earlier this week. Chip Kelly has had a horrendous go in San Francisco this year. Is Kelly safe?
“Chip Kelly is anything but safe,” La Canfora said. “Nobody is safe in San Francisco right now. I continue to hear that they will try and conduct an A-list GM search to find the best guy outside of their building to fix it from a football standpoint. That person will be in power to keep or fire the coach. When I talk to people that are those kind of shot callers, I haven’t talked to any of them that want to hitch their wagon to Chip Kelly.”
