Joe Rogan: Mayweather Would Embarrass McGregor

For the last several days, there have been rumblings, rumors, speculation. Mayweather versus McGregor? Conor versus Floyd? Really? Really.

Only not really.

Yes, while there are rumors that Mayweather and McGregor could square off in the ring – or the octagon – there’s been nothing to suggest it would actually happen. So, two questions: One, will this fight actually happen, and two, if it does, could McGregor hang with Mayweather in a boxing match?

“No and no,” UFC lead voice Joe Rogan said on CBS Sports Radio’s Tiki and Tierney. “I think Floyd Mayweather is one of the greatest – if not the greatest – boxers of all time. I think Conor has no business being in a boxing ring with him and I think Floyd would probably embarrass him. If it went to an MMA fight, I think Floyd Mayweather has no business being in a UFC cage with Conor McGregor and Conor would embarrass him. I think they would both embarrass each other in their respective sports. I don’t think the fight is ever going to happen, and I think it’s a bunch of nonsense and a bunch of hype. I think that’s all it is.”

For what it’s worth, Rogan said that McGregor would fare better in a boxing ring than Mayweather would in the octagon.

“I think he would have a better chance of surviving,” Rogan said of the 27-year-old Dublin native. “He would probably be able to survive longer because Floyd, he’s not the vicious knockout puncher that Canelo Alvarez is or Gennady Golovkin is. I think what would happen most likely is Floyd would embarrass him. Just outbox him and make him look like he doesn’t belong in the ring with him. But if it was an MMA fight, Floyd would get destroyed. He would never make it out of the first round. Without a doubt, Conor would wreck him. Just wreck him. He would kick his legs out from under him, he would kick his body, he would take him down and strangle him – he would do whatever he wanted to him. The distance is so much different, the timing is so much different in an MMA fight, and being able to use Conor’s best weapons, which are kicks – Floyd would be in big, big trouble.”

Tiki Barber and Brandon Tierney agree with Rogan on all counts, but come on: Worst-case scenario, a little P.R. for boxing and UFC isn’t so bad, is it?

“There are worse things that could happen,” Rogan said, chuckling. “But it’s a distraction. I would way rather just hear about actual fights that are going to take place.”
