Week 7 was a game-changer in the weekly 6-Pack of Picks. Tiki Barber, who entered the week with a commanding lead in the season standings, went 1-5, while Brandon Tierney rebounded with a clutch 5-0-1 performance.
Barber still leads Tierney on the season, but the gap has narrowed, 23-18-1 to 20-19-3.
Looking ahead to Week 8, Tierney is taking the over on Jets/Raiders (44), the Ravens (-3.5) against the Chargers, and the Vikings (+1.5) at Chicago. He also likes the over in Louisiana Tech/Rice (61.5), USC (-5.5) at Cal, and Minnesota (+13.5) against Michigan.
“I’m rolling with the Trojans,” Tierney said. “They’re coming off a big win over Utah. They hung 42 on the Utes. Now this 5-0 start by Cal, they racked up a lot of wins against kind of bad teams (such as) Grambling. They got lucky against Texas with an extra point. I think Cal is largely overrated, and I think this number reflects that people still buy a little more into Cal than they should. This should be a touchdown spread, even though it’s at Cal. USC (has) a lot of pro talent. I think the Trojans are humming right now. I think they hang a few points on them, and I think they kind of win going away.”
Barber, meanwhile, likes the Packers (-2.5) at Denver, the Cardinals (-6) at Cleveland, and the Cowboys (+6) against the Seahawks. Looking at the college ranks, he likes Appalachian State (-23.5) against Troy, Houston (-12) against Vanderbilt, and NC State (+10) against Clemson.
“We know – we know – that Aaron Rodgers isn’t going to make the mistakes that other teams have made against the Denver Broncos,” Barber said. “I think you’re going to get a resurgent game out of the run game for the Green Bay Packers, and Aaron Rodgers – he’s Aaron Rodgers. He steps up to this occasion, especially against another undefeated (team). I’m taking the Packers giving up two-and-a-half.”
