After going a woeful 0-6 in the weekly 6-Pack of Picks in Week 5, Brandon Tierney went a respectable 3-3 in Week 6.
There’s just one problem. Tiki Barber went 5-1 – and this was on the heels of a 4-2 performance.
Barber now leads Tierney 22-13-1 to 15-19-2 on the season.
“Big-time numbers (by Tiki),” Tierney said. “Listen, when you’re doing that against the spread, you’re doing something right. Not happy where is it. So it’s time to get cracking.”
Thus, Tierney is changing his strategy: every pick he makes this week will have a personal or regional connection to him – or a guest connection either from this week (Toledo’s Matt Campbell and Michigan State’s Mark Dantonio) or the past (Arizona’s Bruce Arians).
Tierney likes his Jets (+8) at New England, the Rams (-6.5) against Cleveland, and Arizona (-8) against Baltimore. He also likes Toledo (-14.5) at UMass, Michigan State (-16.5) against Indiana, and Ohio State (-21.5) at Rutgers.
“You know I’ve been a (J.T.) Barrett guy from the summer,” Tierney said. “I think they finally have the right guy playing quarterback. Take the Buckeyes.”
Barber, meanwhile, likes the Falcons (-5) at Tennessee, the Browns (+6.5) at St. Louis, and the Chargers (-3.5) against Oakland. He also likes Penn State (-6.5) at Maryland, Rutgers (21.5) against Ohio State, and Bowling Green (-14) at Kent State.
“Maryland stinks,” Barber said. “In three of their four losses, they’ve given up 45+ points. Now, Penn State is not capable of scoring that many, but they are a touchdown better than Maryland, so I’m taking Penn State.”
